How Will Your Instructor Conduct Your Driving Lessons?

At Kinghams Driving School we want you to get the most from your driving lessons and we ensure you develop a good understanding of the techniques, principles, theory and the mechanics of safe driving. Our driving instructors follow a lessons structure and driving test syllabus promoted by the Driving Standards Agency which is designed to promote rapid learning, achievement and increased confidence.

So - What happens during your driving lesson? How will you be taught

• You will be picked up at your preferred location. Once in the car, you or your instructor will drive to the training ground depending on your ability. Once at the training ground your lesson will start with a verbal recap of your last lesson to ensure understanding of the main points covered. these points may be explained again and re-enforced when required. A recap also gets the little grey cells working!
• Once the recap is complete, your instructor will tell you what you'll be practicing. Either you will continue practicing what you covered the week before to increase your standard before moving on or you'll be introduced to something new to build on your previous knowledge and skills.
• Once the aims and objectives for the driving lesson have been set you will then properly start the lessons. The level of instruction you receive on the move will depend on your standard and ability. You will either receive full verbal instruction, prompting, or a combination of the two as deemed necessary by your driving instructor. If a completely new subject is being introduced to you, i.e emerging out of road on the left or right, then a briefing / explanation will be given with the use of diagrams to ease understanding. You will then move off and practice practice practice!!
• If you make mistakes, cutting a right hand corner for example. Your instructor will explain the error, alert you to the potential problems you could encounter due to the error and explain the remedy via explanation. You'll then move off and practice right corners until you can turn correctly.
• At the end of the lessons you will finish at your preferred drop off point. Before you jump out of the car excited about how much you've achieved your instructor will go through a five minute debrief to recap on the main points of the lesson to re-enforce what you have learnt and then tell you what you'll be practicing next time
